My journey in Dance began from a very early age. Having been born into an environment surrounded in dance i took a instant liking to Dance and as young boy I always had great natural rhythm.

From being taken to my mothers dance classes in a Pram I soon knew this would be a part of my life. I began dancing as soon as I could walk, beginning with basic and beginning my start through the medal test system. And by the age of 4 I started dancing in my first competitions.

Throughout my Junior career I achieved many goals and accolades, NCDTA Junior Champion ( 3x ) , NCDTA Junior Modern ( 2x ), British Classical Junior Champion,  achieved the North of England Team (3x) & Captain (2x) the winning team, and achieved many, many British Finals and Grand Prix’s throughout the country. (all of this was not achieved without sacrifice towards the end of my career in Junior I would travel via plane up and down the country to train a maximum of at least 12hours a week. )

After Junior I decided to give Amateurs ago after nearly 3 years and reaching many finals I reached a ranking of British number 3 before deciding to retire and focus more on the teaching side of Dancing. I knew I was getting more enjoyment from teaching then I was from competing at this point.

Dawn Koskela

Dawns early dance training was in tap, stage and ballet and she gained her N.C.D.T.A medals and competed from the age of 3.  From the age of 11 she concentrated solely on ballet gaining her Royal Academy examinations and taking part in performances including Copellia with the Scottish Ballet.

Dawn joined the Hatton Academy in 2005 to study Salsa and went on to compete locally and nationally in the Social Dance Ballroom, Classical and Latin and formation team sections, becoming a British Finalist in 2010 in all categories.

Dawn is qualified in Latin American and also intends to train towards teaching qualifications in Ballroom and Classical. She believes that dancing has enriched her life and given her confidence and self worth

I have been dancing since the age of 2.5 being trained in many disciplines by Wendy Hatton of the Hatton Academy of Dance & Arts

I was then went on to study for my professional teachers qualifications. With the support and knowledge of Wendy Hatton I have completed my Ballroom Membership, as well as Latin American and Country & Western Line Dancing Associate level qualifications. I am presently studying for my Membership Latin American and Country & Western Line Dancing which I hope to complete in August 2012.  I take a keen, active role in the Academy and, strive to promote and uphold the reputation of the business.

In 2006 I met my partner Mickilea where, coming from a highly successful sporting background, quickly became involved in dancing life. I used my knowledge gained from Wendy to train Mickilea for her Associate Country &Western Line Dancing as well as her Student Ballroom. In September 2006 Mickilea and I introduced dancing at St Bede’s RC Church on a Saturday afternoon. We have, and continue to provide classes in many disciplines to the parish, as well as the wider community to enjoy.
